Twitter has a new look!

Twitter is starting to look more like Facebook, don't you think? With major updates to its interface on the web, Android and iOS, it not only looks better, it's easier to use in the ways you want to use it.

Don't know about you but it seems to me that Twitter has been overrun with Internet marketing crap, to the point where it's difficult to find your way through it all. The new layout and features may just solve this. (At the time of this writing, not everyone has access to the new web app, but it will come.) Check it out...

Seesmic Look - A new way to dip into the "real-time web"

The old web is still useful, but if you want to know what's going on right NOW, you have to put your mouth to the firehose of the real-time web. Twitter and other social networking sites like it are up-to-the-second when it comes to what's going on in the world and in people's heads. The data being created is now too abundant to follow without some sort of interface that feeds it to you at a manageable velocity. Here's an app that does an excellent and attractive job of exactly that.

Yay! No ads for Twitter! - Twitter sees tools, not ads, for revenue

Reuters - May 18, 2009, by Alexei Oreskovic

Twitter is working on various ways to make money from its fast-growing microblogging service, but advertising is an option that is not currently being considered.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said on Monday that the company is developing various add-on tools and services for the businesses and professional users of Twitter, which could create a revenue stream for the company. He said Twitter plans to introduce some of these tools by year end.

But Stone dismissed the notion of selling advertisements on the popular service at this time, even though ad revenue is the main way most Web start-ups manage to stay in business while keeping their service free for consumers.

"There are a few reasons why we're not pursuing advertising -- one is it's just not quite as interesting to us," Stone told the Reuters Global Technology Summit in New York via videolink from San Francisco.

Stone said serving up ads alongside Twitter messages could also annoy users. And he said Twitter doesn't have, and isn't seeking to hire, the staff to create an advertising-based business.

Bit.ly - A better way to shorten URLs

As a budding Twitter user I have been forced to shorten my thoughts to 140 character Tweets, making the task of shortening URLs quite important. Everyone knows about TinyURL, but here's a method that seems to beat it. Especially useful is the bookmarklet.
